Loose diamonds are certainly some of the most beautiful creations our wonderful world has provided us over the years. They are naturally formed within the earth and sell for a pretty penny. The United States is the largest diamond market in the world. The United States also has possession of some of the most famous diamonds of the world including the Hope Diamond.
The Hope Diamond is currently housed in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.but it took a long time and many changes in ownership for it to get there. Weighing in at 45.52 carats, it is blue/grey in color and is one of the most beautiful sights on display for the public to admire.
Legend has it that the diamond was originally as big as 115 carats before being cut multiple times. Jean Baptiste Tavernier is thought to have found or stolen this diamond in a diamond mine in India. He brought this diamond, along with 24 other diamonds to Paris where he sold them to King Louis XIV around 1668. The stone was also known as the Tavernier Blue because of its color. The King had the large 115 carat stone cut down a bit to make it more manageable to wear. The stone then passed down a long line of kings before it went missing in 1792.
